Cardinal Vincent Nichols

Trustee of the Lux Mundi Catholic Academy Trust

The 11th Archbishop of Westminster

In 1998 Bishop Nichols was appointed chair of the Bishops’ Conference Department for Catholic Education and Formation and also chair of the Catholic Education Service.

In 2008 he was appointed President of the Commission for Schools, Universities and Catechesis of the Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE).

In 2014, he was appointed by Pope Francis to lead the work of the Church against human trafficking and modern slavery. He is President of the Santa Marta Group, which gathers together Catholic bishops, police chiefs and government officials from over 30 countries around the world in a partnership to work towards the eradication of these twin scourges.

On 27 May 2015, he was installed as the first Chancellor of St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

As Archbishop of Westminster, he is also Chancellor of Mater Ecclesiae College.

He is patron of a number of Catholic charities including the Hackney Hospice, the Passage and the Cardinal Hume Centre.

Bishop John Sherrington

Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster

Prior to his ordination, Bishop Sheerington worked for a short period in management consultancy. He was ordained a priest in 1987 and lectured in Moral Theology at All Hallows College, Dublin and St John’s Seminary, Wonersh.

Bishop Sherrington is responsible for the pastoral care of the parishes and deaneries of North London and is Moderator of the Curia and a Trustee of the Diocese. He is Chair of the Governing Body of Mater Ecclesiae College and oversees the Diocesan Education Service.

Within the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, he is a member of the Department for Social Justice with responsibility for life issues since 2014, and a member of the Education Department since 2022. He is a member of the governing body of the Anscombe Centre, Oxford, and a Trustee of the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth.

Internationally, he is a member of the Overseas Seminary Committee and a Trustee of the Pontifical Beda College and Venerable English College in Rome, and of the Royal English College in Valladolid, Spain.

Mr Paolo Camoletto

After graduating from the University of Chicago with a BA in Economics in 1991, Mr Paolo Camoletto, began his career as an Auditor for Arthur Anderson & Co. In 1995 he became Finance Manager for NCR Corporation before moving on to take the position of Vice President at JP Morgan Chase, London in 1999.

In 2007 he joined the Diocese of Westminster where he held the position of Financial Secretary with responsibility for reshaping the financial and asset management of the charity. He led on developing the new financial strategy of the Diocese by creating innovative income streams and restructuring capital.

In 2016 Mr Camoletto was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Diocese of Westminster, where he continues to provide strategic and operational oversight for Education Services, Caritas (Social Justice), youth provision and the Financial Secretariat.

Mr Peter Sweeney MA FCCT

Trustee of the Lux Mundi Catholic Academy Trust

Director of Education

Mr Peter Sweeny has worked extensively in education leadership for the majority of his career. He has been Executive Headteacher at, St Joan of Arc Catholic School Rickmansworth, St Mary’s Catholic School Bishops Stortford and St John’s Catholic Primary School Mill End. As an Executive Headteacher, Mr Sweeny worked closely supporting school governors and leadership teams to develop progress and capacity for sustainability and success.

In 2012 he joined All Saints Catholic Academy Trust as their CEO where he led for just short of ten years. During this time Mr Sweeny was also National Leader for Education providing consulting and mentoring services to Senior Leaders in Education.

In 2020 Mr Sweeny joined the Diocese of Westminster as Interim Director for the Education Service and was appointed to the full position in 2022. As Director of the Education Service, Mr Sweeny brings his skills in building leadership capacity, professional development and senior-level negotiation as well as his unwavering passion for improving outcomes and opportunities for students.

Canon Michael Dunne

Chair of the Education Committee for the Diocese of Westminster

Canon Michael Dunne is Parish Priest at Our Lady of Grace and St Edward, Chiswick. In his role as Parish Priest, he supports in the creation and execution of the school’s strategy helping them towards their goals. He also plays an integral role in the development of the students’ spiritual growth and is a regular visitor to the school for celebration masses and other events.

In 2017, Canon Dunne was appointed Chair of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster (RCDOW) Education Commission by Cardinal Vincent Nichols. In his role, Canon Dunne is responsible for all areas related to education in schools and colleges as outlined in Canon law. He oversees the financial aspects of providing and maintaining Catholic education in the Diocese and leads on cross-communication with the Archbishop, his Auxiliary Bishops and the Diocesan Trustees.

He is also Chair of the RCDOW Academy Project Board and has played a pivotal part in enacting the vision that every school and college will sit within a nexus of collaboration and support.

Mr Justin Madubuko

School Governor, Trustee and Chair of the Lux Mundi Board.

Mr Justin Madubuko began his career as a writer using his studies in media and communication and passion for business to report on IT and telecommunications before moving into financial reporting. This interest in finance led him to Barclays where he has worked as a senior leader for over twenty years. This experience has supported his skills and knowledge of project and risk management, procurement and the submission of bids.

Mr Madubuko is also Chair of Governors at Cardinal Pole Catholic School and Holy Family Catholic School and Sixth Form where he has developed strong links to and relationships with schools and staff, the local authority and Diocese.

He is committed to professional development for all and has attended a range of training provisions to support his understanding of academy processes and regulations in preparation for his role as trustee. He is committed to inclusion and equality of opportunity, enhanced by his knowledge as a past Hackney resident and pupil and he retains strong links to this vibrant community. 

Fr Patrick Allsop

School Governor, Trustee and Parish Priest

Fr Patrick Allsop is parish priest of the Immaculate Heart of Mary & St Dominic in Homerton and a long-serving governor of both primary and secondary schools. He has an extensive educational as well as theological background and spent thirty-two years as a School Chaplain and teacher, including work as a  Chief Examiner of Religious Studies and Christian Theology A Levels. This has provided him with a deep understanding of teaching and learning and outcomes and the skills to contribute to these areas as a trustee and governor. 

As a governor, Fr Patrick is Chair of the Finance and HR Committee in one school and serves on the Finance committee at the other, as well as serving on the admissions and headteacher’s pay committees. He has dealt with a variety of appeals and investigated complaints, developing skills in dealing with complex issues and legal constraints. He has served as an Independent Schools Inspector with responsibility for health and safety and safeguarding, qualifying as a Child Protection Officer in 1990.

Fr Patrick is committed to securing equality of opportunity for all, and to promoting a supportive environment in our schools for all our pupils, whatever their needs and priorities.

Mr James Coyle MBE

Trustee and Chair of the Project Strategy Group

 Mr James Coyle MBE leads the Project Strategy Group of the Trust, working with Headteachers and Governors.  He has significant experience in education leadership as an OFSTED and Section 48 inspector and a long-serving Chair of Governors in both primary and secondary schools.

Currently, Mr Coyle is Chair of the Blessed Holy Family Catholic Academy Trust. In this role, he has developed a strong understanding of academy operations, procedures and the regulations contained in the academy handbook. Mr Coyle has particular strengths in leadership, strategic planning, data analysis, procurement, safeguarding, inclusion, quality assurance and legal. In addition, he is adept at change management and all that entails, as well as experience in the development of strong leadership and strategic relationships, as well as in the role and responsibilities of trustees.

Mr Coyle brings to the Trust his previous experience as a secondary school leader and teacher trainer as well as his experience in curriculum development through his work with the University of London and exam boards.

Lloyd Opara

School Governor, Trustee and member of the Project Strategy Group.

Mr Lloyd Opara is a Governor, leader and teacher at both Lux Mundi and another Catholic Academy Trust.

He has served as vice-chair of governors at Bishop Challoner at a time of significant change and used his experience to support them through these challenges. Mr Opara has a deep commitment to outstanding education and inclusion for all. In his professional roles, he has supported schools in moving from Ofsted ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Outstanding’ and has brought his skills and experience to these change management processes.

Mr Opara has significant experience in strategic, change and project management both as a school leader and governor and so has a thorough understanding of progress and quality assurance measures. This has enabled him to interrogate and evaluate data presented on educational standards and curriculum compliance, including awareness of the legal processes involved. 

Mr Opara has a strong understanding of governance and the role of the critical friend. He is experienced and adept in holding leaders to account.  

Mr Simon Bunce

Trustee and member of the Project Strategy Group

Mr Simon Bunce has a strong background in finance and change management in the Finance and Investment sector as well as knowledge and experience of risk management. He has experience of working in a range of different contexts, organisations and communities and this has developed strong communication and organisational skills. Mr Bunce has brought this experience and knowledge to the academy sector, as a Governor in a secondary school and in addition to experience of working with higher education.

This experience has supported a strong use of data management and analysis in monitoring and evaluating educational outcomes. Mr Bunce has an eye for detail and an interest in the legal, finance and compliance aspects of Trust responsibilities and the importance of risk management in governance. 

His experience of working in PR and marketing are timely in the face of the challenges of falling pupil roles.

Mr Bunce is presently a member of the Diocese Finance Board and member of the Diocese of Westminster Education Committee and these skill sets as an academy trustee have been of significant value. 

Tim O’Sullivan

School Governor and Trustee

Mr O’Sullivan has been a governor at St Elizabeth’s Catholic primary for over 16 years and chair for the majority of that period. He has extensive school governor experience which  includes sitting on a number of committees including teaching and learning, curriculum development, finance and premises and HR.   

He has also supported several schools as a sports coach and is manager of a men’s Gaelic Athletic Association football team in London. Mr O’Sullivan has worked as a senior executive in a variety of roles in government and the private sector, including in the Department for Education and a top FTSE 100 business.

In his professional roles as a communications and public affairs specialist, he has experience in strategic planning, personnel management, public and corporate affairs, international politics, risk management, and productive team development. He lives in the parish of St John the Baptist in Hackney with his wife and two sons amd enjoys spending time with his family.

Ciara Nicholson
